Colleen, the sister of Jeffrey Lee Moore, a man who died in a maximum-security prison, has spoken about her brother’s death and the injustices he faced within the prison system. Through her testimony in an interview for Free Press Info, she seeks to clarify the circumstances of his death and highlight the negligence he was subjected to, while also dispelling some rumors that have circulated about his story.
A Childhood Marked by Family Struggles
Colleen recounted her older brother Jeffrey’s difficult childhood, during which he faced many challenges in their family environment. “My mother convinced everyone that Jeffrey was a sociopath, and they committed him to psychiatric units,” Colleen said. Despite these difficulties, the relationship between them remained close, and Colleen recalled how her brother cared for her and visited her whenever he could. Even after being thrown out of the house, Jeffrey kept in contact with his younger sister and later, with the family, although he continued to face emotional and family barriers.
Before his first incarceration, Jeffrey served in the National Guard and worked as a Border Patrol agent in Nogales. Colleen remembered this time as one of her brother’s happiest periods, when he was married and enjoying his life as the proud father of four children. However, Jeffrey’s life took a drastic turn after discovering his father was having an affair with his wife, triggering a series of events that led to his personal downfall and, eventually, to prison.
Struggles Within the Prison System
During his time in prison, Jeffrey faced great difficulties. Colleen emphasized that her brother was not a “snitch” and had, in fact, denounced the Aryan Brotherhood (AB). With which he had been affiliated, leading to internal retaliation . “My brother was brave to go against them and didn’t let them define him,” she explained. The rumor that her brother had “snitched” on someone is completely false, as Jeffrey chose to disassociate himself from the organization he had been connected with in prison—an act that, according to Colleen, shows his integrity and courage.
In 2010, Jeffrey was charged with murder, and although he accepted a plea deal, Colleen insists her brother was not treated fairly. Throughout his sentence, he endured extremely harsh conditions and isolation. “He was punished for refusing to follow the rules imposed by prison gangs, but he was never a snitch,” she asserted firmly.
Jeffrey’s Death: Neglect and Abandonment
Colleen learned of her brother’s death in November 2023, when she checked his sentence status and discovered that his sentence had expired “due to death.” Jeffrey had been transferred to a hospital after being found unconscious in his cell, but his family was not informed until days later. Colleen had to track down her brother’s body to ensure he was given a proper farewell.
Jeffrey suffered from hepatitis B and C, and Colleen claims he did not receive the medical attention he needed. “He couldn’t walk, he wasn’t being brought food, he couldn’t use the bathroom. They let him die alone in a maximum-security cell,” she declared. The family questions why he wasn’t provided adequate medical care and why an internal autopsy wasn’t performed to fully clarify the exact cause of his death.
Colleen has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to her brother’s death in prison and has expressed her intention to seek justice for him. “I will not stop until those responsible for stealing my brother’s life are brought to justice,” She said in an interview with Free Press Info.
