Madrid, February 8th, 2023 – Prospere James, known as Tha Rapper Haiti, a Haitian rapper, spoke about his experience growing up amidst the crisis in Haiti and how his music is influenced by his roots and culture. Born in 1996 in Haiti, James moved to New York in 2013 and has been working on his musical career ever since.
Tha Rapper Haiti shares his story and vision amidst the challenging situation in his home country. Despite being far from home, James feels a strong connection to his country of origin and culture. With a president assassinated in 2021 and an increasingly precarious security situation, James believes that what Haiti needs right now is peace and effective solutions. “We are experiencing a terrible security situation, which includes the loss of government control over strategic areas. I think all we need right now is peace and a better solution to change this situation,” said Prospere James in an interview conducted by Gilberto Ewale Masa for Free Press Info.
When speaking about his music, James said, “I feel connected to my origin and I want to represent my country and culture on the music scene, that’s why I choose to represent myself as Tha Rapper Haiti. My music is a way to express my hope and vision for a better future in Haiti.” James speaks four languages and has chosen to sing in Creole to represent his country and culture in the most authentic way possible. Additionally, although he is interested in trying other genres such as Afrobeats, he is not interested in reggae.
James is an inspiring example of how music can be a powerful tool to convey important messages and connect people, even in the most difficult times.
