Interview questions to Teezy Simmons

  • Please can you explain your artist name to us?

My artist name is Teezy Simmons, and there’s a story behind that name. Originally my artist name was Tall-Tee but someone already had that name and I wanted to be unique, so I decided to go by the name Teezy which is short for Tall-Tee. My friend who was more like a brother to me had jus died around that time and he was an amazing singer. Unfortunately he never had a chance to be heard so I wanted to continue on his legacy by taking his last name “Simmons”. and that’s how Teezy Simmons became to be.

  • How long have you been in music and how did you decide to start?

As a child I always had a little rap book with nothing but verses in it but it was never anything serious. I’ve always been intrigued by rap music since I was a child, growing up I listened to a lot of artist I could relate to such as 50 cent, Spm, etc. It wasn’t until the year 2015 when I decided to try and record a song in a studio and it just so happened to work out for me. So in total I been doing music for 5 years.

I can’t really remember what I wanted to be when I was little due to the fact, I had memory loss at 8 years old.

  • What is it that differentiates you from other artists? How would you define your style?

My style of music is aggressive hard rap, which not a lot of artist can do. I yell in my music and not too many people do that which is somewhat rare, but I can also switch it up anytime I want due to the fact I originally started off as an RnB artist. So I can sing and rap, which also differentiates me from other artists.

  • Do you think it is easier to get ahead now in music thanks to social networks?

I believe it is easier for any artist who is serious about his or her music to get ahead in the music industry due to social networking. For the reason being, the internet is free and there are so many opportunities waiting out there. Anybody can get a distribution deal now these days and get all their music on the platforms. Social media is also a huge way to promote music and get discovered, just like I did.

  • What do you think of the current music industry?

The music industry now is different from back then that’s for sure, throwback music compared to today’s music is way different. Back then, music would hit you different due to the type of sound it had, as to know everybody is ignorant and just acts a certain way to portray a certain role. But music also teaches you about how the world really works and the corruption behind everything, and trying to send a message to open everyone’s eyes. Music will always evolve and us the people will evolve with it. Music will always be a therapeutic to many who need an escape, and that will never change.

  • Do you have someone as a reference within the music industry?

I got a couple references but I’ll just use Goldtoes from GT Digital Distribution and Rasheed from Dopehouse records.

  • What do you do to improve as an artist?

I like to hear people’s feedback when it comes to my music, I want to hear their full criticism to help me improve. As a listener they know exactly what they want and like to hear, so when they tell me something needs fixing I listen because it helps me become better and makes the music better for other listeners

  • What motivates you to continue creating music?

I’ve done lost so much friends and family on the way due to music, if I were to give up now it all would’ve been for nothing. What motivates me the most is all the people who have doubted me all my life. I’ve come such a long way and I’m so close to proving every single one of them wrong.

The most rewarding song I have ever done is called “TakeOff” it’s a true story based on my life as an artist and how I’ve come so far from being a nobody performing in front of an empty crowd to big crowds. The progression of my career. Showing dreams can come true and to never doubt yourself because I am living proof it can happen.
