Kool Kid Rockwell: The Miami Artist Writing “Love Letters From a Villain”
Kool Kid Rockwell behind the stage name is Jamal Lord, a Miami-based artist that blends hip-hop and R&B into what he calls “lover boy music,” with the occasional turn-up. On November 16, 2026, his birthday, he plans to release a new project, Love Letters From a Villain.
A family that made it work
Kool Kid Rockwell says he did not grow up rich, but his parents and his grandmother made sure the family ate every day and had a roof over their heads. Some stretches were tough, he says, and that is what makes tough people.
From his father’s vinyl to a karaoke machine
His first contact with music came at home, watching his father spin Sade records on vinyl. Around age 15, he began recording on a karaoke machine his father had bought and posting the results on YouTube for friends at school to see.

Where the name comes from
The “Kool Kid” comes from his older cousin Evan, who always called him that. “Rockwell,” he says, was a name his father used, and he felt the two went well together since that was already what people were calling him. His Instagram profile goes by a different name, “God’s Favorite,” which is also the title of one of his albums.

Lover boy music and turn-up days
He describes his sound as a mix of hip-hop and R&B. Some days he loves making what he calls «lover boy music for the ladies», and other days he wants to turn up and talk crazy on beats for the guys who feel like they are missing out. Apple Music files him under hip-hop/rap.
His catalog there includes the albums Pretty Girls Only, Gods Favorite, 1 Of 1, Hope YOU Miss ME, and This Is for You, plus tracks such as Don’t wait on me, SuperStar, Motion, and East Side Baby. In 2023, music sites introduced him around his single IDK.
When he was asked which of his songs defines him most, Kookkidrockwell picks “Look What You’ve Done,” which he says reminds him, with a laugh, of why he is the way he is sometimes.
“Love Letters From a Villain”
The next chapter arrives on his birthday. Kool Kid Rockwell says Love Letters From a Villain will be released on November 16, 2026, and promises a lot of heartbreak and growth. The project follows his latest song, “For Me,” which he says began simply: he heard the beat, felt a good vibe, and recorded to express himself.
Family, friends, and a lesson in business
He says his first serious collaboration was with his cousin, the rapper Smokepurpp, back when they were kids hanging out in Smokepurpp’s early days. Smokepurpp, who was born in Chicago and raised in Miami, later became a known name in SoundCloud rap.
Another early supporter was Miami rapper SylvanLaCue, whom he credits with showing him love in his early days. The most valuable lesson, he says, was that music is not always about the music but about the business.
Closer to home, Apple Music lists him as a featured artist on singles by Seylah Jay (Mine, Circles, FWM) and Huey Jamez (Bout a Check). He calls them personal friends he believes in: music is something he was always good at, so why not help the homies out? Looking ahead, the collaborator on his wish list is Vory, whose music he likes and whose pain and feelings about women he says he relates to.
