Ioannis Skourlis, better known as epimtx in the music industry, is a famous music artist and digital creator based in Athens, Greece. He has millions of views on Youtube and has appeared on different TV shows. Recently, he has released a song titled “Den Me Noiazei” with Anti.
Epimtx is a member of the legendary group Matrix, formed in the summer of 2013 with Snis de Kozani and cemented the foundations of alternative rap music in Greece. In December 2020, he joined the staff of Panik Records and released “Tirana” with the collaboration of Valiant Ace. “From a very young age I started making my own music. When I was 15 I won a magazine contest and recorded my first official single. It was my dream to become a successful musical artist from a very young age”, Epimtx tells us.
In 2019 he marked his Greek audience with a new style of video (motivational) with a variety of themes such as love, friendship and car accidents. Epimtx’s motivational videos have received thousands of weekly views and are occupying the top positions of local trends.
Interview with Greek artist epimtx – Ioannis Skourlis.
1. Would you tell us your full name and age?
My name is Ioannis Skourlis and I am well known by the nickname “epimtx” in the music industry. I am 27 years old and I was born in Athens on 28/9/1994.
2. At what age and how did you get started in the world of music?
I think I was inspired by my personal situation at school. I was a child who had been bullied by other children. When I was in school, I started writing songs about bullying.
3. When do you start making motivational videos?
Motivational videos were a shocking idea I came across while in the military. Somehow I have to pass “messages” to people who don’t listen to rap music, so I chose not to “sing” and just find another way to communicate with the world. The first video was “2 lives” and it is about the two parallel lives that a human lives. Yours normal and the other you imagine when you fall asleep. When this video came out on the internet I didn’t expect such a panic. The video got amazing views and was shared by thousands of people within a few days.
4. One of the videos that had also made an impact and even entered the YouTube trends was “I love you”. What did you want to say to the young children looking at you?
Almost every video has been on YouTube trends, “I love you” reached the highest of all. For a long time I wanted to explain to the new generation what love means because in the years we live it is virtual. When they say “I love you” they don’t mean it. Everything they live is ephemeral. In my generation I can say that I managed to live true love and I continue to live it.
5. YOU HAVE MILLIONS OF VIEWS ON TIKTOK AND INSTAGRAM. WHAT ABOUT THE FANS?
The messages I receive every day – to answer everything – should have in my possession an entire call center. However, at the end of the day I always dedicate time to them. The issues I have raised in these videos are related to situations I experienced when I was young and maybe some of them even now. Every day I hear things and situations that I wish didn’t exist in this world, but unfortunately they do exist. Because I was also bullied at a very young age, I would definitely like to have an epimtx at that time for advice. In fact, most of the time these videos are like… a superhero for every person who sees them, but my action doesn’t stop there. I do things in normal life and help people in an even more drastic way. These are incidents that I wouldn’t want published, so I keep a low profile.
6. What criteria do you use to choose your songs and what differentiates you from other artists?
Most of my videos are a source of inspiration for my experiences, as well as the stories of people who have entrusted me through social media. The songs we do are good for fun, but since we have a lot of people watching us, it’s good to talk often and about important topics for young people and advise them.
7. Tell us an advantage and a disadvantage about you as an epimtx.
As an advantage I would say that I can psychologize the person at first sight, at the first moment, I do not know how it happens, but most of the time I am right. While as a disadvantage I would say that I have the nerves, lately I try to solve it. You will tell me, who has no nerves at work, we all have them in a job of course. From the nerves you can lose people, say a conversation, not understand that you said it, I have suffered this many times, a great misunderstanding happens and in the end you lose people close to you. So that’s my big drawback.
8. Can you give us a preview of your next projects?
I’m making a great movie and this is a dream I’ve had since I was a kid. Also, I’m recording my new single for the summer. Every week I upload a new motivational video on social media.
9. What message would you send to everyone who wants to follow in your footsteps as an entrepreneur?
I love you all. They are not fanatics. They are family!
